On 9–10 June 2026, the House of Insurance at Leibniz University Hannover organized the 8th Insurance Data Science Conference. More than 170 participants from academia and industry gathered to discuss recent developments in data science, analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and InsurTech, as applied in the insurance industry.
The conference featured over 40 presentations covering a wide range of topics, including climate and emerging risks, mortality modeling, fairness in insurance pricing, advanced risk analytics, and machine learning under uncertainty. The event provided an international platform for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.
Three keynote speakers highlighted current challenges and opportunities for the insurance sector in the age of artificial intelligence. Frank Chang (Uber) discussed recent advances in AI and their applications in insurance, while Silvana Pesenti (University of Toronto) presented approaches to model modification and combination in dynamic settings. Thomas Kuhnt (HDI SE) reflected on the evolving role of insurance in a rapidly changing technological environment. A panel discussion chaired by Stefan Weber (Leibniz University Hannover) and featuring the keynote speakers together with Silke Sehm (Hannover Re) explored the implications of AI for risk assessment, insurability, and the governance of emerging risks.
The organizers thank all speakers, participants, committee members, and HDI for contributing to the success of the conference. The next Insurance Data Science Conference will take place at University College Dublin on 8–9 June 2027.
